Announcing show 2 of 6

Charlotte Artery, 130 Bland St.

Charlotte Artery, 130 Bland St.

It’s time to announce our second exhibition! Charlotte Artery will be having our next showing on Friday, November 13th at 130 Bland Street, one quick block off of Tryon St. in South End. It’s a stunningly simple 40’ x 40’ enclosed space that we will convert into a gallery for one week. We can’t wait.
Artery members have been hard at work putting together more work to for this show, and we’ve invited a few guest artists to exhibit with us. That makes this an eight person show, so there will be lots to see. We’re proud to have with us the following;

Paul Keysar
Jon Tarleton
Teresa Overcash

The posted images are our new cards to advertise the show around town. They were designed by Artery member Dan Allegrucci who did a stand-up job. We will post a list of places you can find the cards soon. In the meantime enjoy this preview. Below you will find the back which contains a map and a few details.

New Location for Next Artery Exhibit

bland2
Preparations are under way for the next Charlotte Artery exhibit. We have nailed down a fantastic location at 130 Bland Street just a skip from Tryon. The building is owned by Greg Pappanastos who has graciously loaned the property to us for this show.

The inside is beautifully raw and waiting for a couple additions to give it an inviting feel. For unused spaces, it just doesn’t get much better than this.

We are not the only ones to think so. After our exhibit, the building will be occupied by Dugg Dugg, another art group in the Charlotte area who will have their grand reopening right in this building on October 23rd. The show looks great. Please check out what they have cooking here;

A Busy Week for Charlotte Artery

It’s been an active week for Charlotte Artery, with lots of news to share. So without further ado, a quick recap;

NCMusicFactory

NC Music Factory/ Lesbian Gay Community Center

We had our third and what was supposed to be our final showing at the LGCC last night, and it was a great success. So great that the show has been extended through October 14 to coordinate with upcoming events! So if you were not able to make it out, you’ll still have some upcoming opportunities. Their hours are;

Tuesday through Thursday, 5-8

Friday and Saturday, 10-1

The exhibit will conclude with a “Meet the Candidate”  event October 14th.

Another big thanks to the Center and Denise Palmbeck who was great to work with!

Trolley Powerhouse Museum

Another exhibit last night, this one at the Charlotte Trolley Powerhouse Museum. That’s right; two shows in one night! Yes, we were stretched thin, but it was worth it to put on two great shows simultaneously.

The exhibit was coordinated with WFAE and The Charlotte Trolley Powerhouse Museum for Gallery Crawl. It was a great combination that drew in a great crowd and we hope to work with both organizations again.

For this event, a big thanks to Andrea Fey and Laura Van Ness their hospitality in having us!

Charlotte Observer

We were featured in the Style section of the Charlotte Observer this week! It was a flattering article, but hey, it’s all true. The article appeared Thursday, October 2. If you missed it, you can catch it here;

Another thanks, this time to Linda Luis Brown who wrote the great article. Linda is a local artist herself. You can see some of her work here;

Creative Loafing

I told you it was a busy week. In addition to that, we also got a nod from the Creative Loafing blog. Yet more kind words. What can I say? We’ll take it.

Preparations Underway

show1a
One of the challenges for the year is conducting a series of six exhibitions in non-gallery locations. It can be challenging enough coordinating a show, but we will be converting non-gallery spaces into exhibition locations. Today the Charlotte Artery members rolled up their sleeves and began converting the LGCC room into a full-fledged space for art display. We came in with temporary walls, display pedestals, paint, lights, and of course artwork.
show1b
Still a long way to go before our opening exhibition this Thursday, but it’s beginning to take shape. Our curator Paola was on hand to select and organize while the rest of us hauled, drilled, painted and sweated.

Hats off to Fred Brazzell andthe folks at Music Factory and especially the Lesbian & Gay Community Center for their graciousness in hosting our first event.

With help from a grant from the North Carolina Arts Council and the Arts and Science Council, a small group of artists naming themselves the Charlotte Artery, has come together with a mission to integrate the Arts community within Charlotte. The Charlotte Artery will conduct a series of six exhibitions at different locations over the next year. Their plan is to transform alternative spaces into temporary art galleries for shows that highlight some of the talent that resides here in the Queen City.

The first exhibition this year will open on September 25th and October 2nd from 6-9pm at the North Carolina Music Factory in the GLC community room.  Included in this exhibition will include hand-pulled prints, paintings, and fiber art.  There will be a private reception for special guests and press on September 24th from 6-9pm.
